emergency
this afternoon was my first hospital emergency experience. i’ve never been seriously ill to be confined to a hospital. i’ve also never experienced something serious about my health, to be rushed to the emergency–that is, until today. i have a fracture at my left pinky toe, hence, i need to wear a cast. there were 2 doctors who came to my rescue. one doctor read my x-ray, while the other doctor gave instructions to the nurses on how to make my cast. the doctor who gave instructions to the nurses didn’t know that only my toe has a fracture. he thought that the portion below the toes and not my toe has a fracture. so his first instructions for me and my mom were to go back after a week to replace my temporary cast with a real cast. he added that i have to wear the real cast for 6-8 weeks, which got me really worried because that is such a long time. the doctor went out of the room and then came back. he asked me if only my toe was affected, and i said yes. so he suddenly changed his prescription. i only have to wear the cast for 1-2 weeks, which made me clap for joy in front of the doctor. and then, i don’t have to have a fiber glass cast (which roughly costs P3000) made. after 1-2 weeks, i only have to tape my pinky toe to the next toe because it hasn’t completely healed yet. the doctor also said that i can still drive even while wearing a cast. yipee! the nurses who were preparing to put a cast on my leg wanted to cut my pants in half. and i was seriously against what they wanted. haha. if only i knew that they were going to put a cast on my leg, i’ll be wearing a skirt. they said that the cast is thick, i wouldn’t be able to take my pants off when i get home. and i insisted that they just do what they have to do without cutting my pants.
it was also my first time to ride a wheelchair. haha. i had to be in a wheelchair going to the x-ray room and i couldn’t help but giggle. haha. it was a good thing that the nurse pulling my wheelchair couldn’t hear my giggles.
the only thing that i noticed with the service in the emergency of medical city is that the staff doesn’t work very fast. there weren’t too many patients during that time for us not to be accommodated immediately. even when my dad was brought to the emergency there two years ago, that’s what we noticed about the service also.
